Posted February 22, 2018 08:14:51The Lightning have made the playoffs in each of the past two seasons and have been among the best teams in the NHL.
But is that enough to warrant a spot in the playoffs?
The Lightning are one of five teams in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs who have not won a game.
The teams with the best record are the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Carolina Hurricanes.
The Lightning’s powerplay has been the key to their success.
The Lightning have averaged a powerplay of 0.71 goals per game over their past five games, and they are averaging 1.16 goals per contest.
The team’s penalty kill has been even more impressive as they have allowed just one goal on the powerplay and have scored three shorthanded goals.
The powerplay is a key part of the Lightning’s success.
In the past three seasons, the Lightning powerplay average is 1.36 goals per goal scored.
Thats good enough to earn a playoff spot, but it could not justify the team’s playoff loss in the past.
The team has the second-best powerplay rate in the League at 1.31 goals per powerplay.
That’s the third-highest rate in this season’s postseason.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are second in the Eastern Conference, behind the New Jersey Devils.
But the Lightning need to be even better on the penalty kill.
The penalty kill is the Lightning best weapon in their offensive game.
It is their only area of strength.
The Bolts are eighth in the Western Conference with a 1.45 goals per penalty kill percentage.
The Buffalo Sabres are tied for the top spot with a 2.00 goals per, and the St. Louis Blues are ninth with a 3.00.
But while the Lightning are ranked No. 1 in the conference in goals against, the Buffalo Sabres have the fourth-worst goals against average in the entire NHL at 1:19.0.
The Sabres need to win their third straight game to have any hope of making the postseason.
The Buffalo Sabres won’t be able to overcome the Lightning for a second consecutive time in the Stanley Cup Final this year, but the Lightning has shown they can get a win against the Sabres, who have had a very good playoff season.
The Tampa Bay Lighting has not won in regulation since winning five in a row March 2, 2017.
The only other team to win in regulation against the Lightning is the New Orleans Saints in 2017, which was the second time in three years the Lightning defeated the Tampa Bay Stars in regulation.
This is the first time the Lightning will need to sweep the series to win the Stanley Cups.
