AT&t and Comcast are teaming up to sell more than 40 million smartphones to customers through their new wireless services, including a new mobile data service from AT&uffire.
The new agreement, announced Tuesday, will provide AT&s mobile service to Comcast, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon customers, as well as customers who sign up through a third-party network provider.
It is part of a wider deal that includes a tiered data plan, in which customers pay a monthly fee to access unlimited, high-speed data for their devices.
The carrier’s other mobile offerings, including Cricket and DirecTV Now, are also now available on the AT&;s new streaming and mobile offerings.
Comcast’s deal is worth $10 billion over five years.
AT&ustra said the deal is aimed at helping it to grow its mobile business and improve its overall business, and to accelerate its acquisition strategy for wireless.
AT &Ccom will acquire the rights to use AT&&:amp;com’s network, AT</amp;gt; wireless technology and AT>amp:gt; spectrum in the United States, and will also acquire spectrum for its wireless networks.
The deal is subject to customary closing conditions.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of the second quarter of 2017.
AT%c&=&!gt; Comcast<A>s AT&ct&?amp;/gt; $10B+ acquisition of spectrum in US is key to AT&ft;s long-term growth and is an investment in the future of our nation’s mobile and broadband markets.
“As we continue to build out our mobile business, we will work with our partners to further expand the number of wireless devices that consumers can use,” said AT&tt;s CEO Brian Roberts.
“This new agreement will help us meet the growing demand for mobile service in the U.S., and allow us to further grow the growth of our wireless services.”
