Asus has launched its ROG GX80-P gaming monitor, a 4K monitor featuring an Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor.
It’s equipped with a 144Hz refresh rate and supports dual-link DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort, so you can play high-definition games at 4K.
The monitor also has a resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels and weighs in at 1.2kg.
We’ve reviewed the Asus GX71, a similarly-equipped 4K gaming monitor.
This is a more powerful monitor, sporting a Core i5-8400U quad-Core processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
We also have a review of the LG IPS 38UC970G, a similar gaming monitor with a Core X7 processor.
But Asus’s GX-P monitors aren’t just gaming-oriented, with a number of features that might appeal to gamers.
You’ll find a full range of connectivity options including a USB Type-C port, HDMI port, Thunderbolt 2 and a headphone jack, too.
Asus’s gaming monitors have a built-in Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M graphics card, which is capable of delivering gaming performance of 1,280×800 or better.
This also helps the monitors cope with high resolutions like 4K, which can be quite demanding for graphics cards.
Asus says it has developed a “superfast and powerful” graphics card that can handle up to a 10,000 pixel-per-second (PPT) gaming frame rate.
We don’t know if the GTX 980MX is able to match that performance in gaming.
The GX82 is also designed to handle high-resolution content.
This monitor features an Nvidia GeForce MX470 graphics card capable of up to 1,600×900 pixel-pixels.
That’s an increase of more than 50 per cent compared to the GTX 860M, which only supports up to 800p resolution.
The monitors refresh rate is up to 144Hz, but the GX86 and GX88 models support 120Hz refresh rates.
These monitor features are only available on the Asus monitor, but Asus says they can be fitted on its GX83 and GZ87 monitors.
There’s also a built in webcam for video chat, so the Asus monitors are also equipped with dual-camera capability.
The Asus GZ84 is a similar monitor, boasting an Nvidia GTX 880MX graphics card and up to 3,200×1,800 pixels resolution.
There is no dedicated video camera on the GZ80, but we’ve tested it with a Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone, and it was able to capture video and capture 720p and 1080p video in 1080p resolution at 60fps.
There are two USB 3.1 Type-A ports on the back of the monitor, and there’s a USB 3, Type-B and HDMI port.
The IPS 38VA8G is also a 4k monitor that has a 1920×1080 resolution.
You can see the difference in our video review of Asus’s 4K-equipped monitor, which you can watch below.
The ROG ROG monitor is priced at €549, which includes a two-year warranty.
You won’t find an option for a 4GB RAM option on the ROG, but you can opt for a 128GB model for a further €699.
There might be a limited number of these monitors in the future.
You could also buy a dual-core Nvidia GeForce Titan Xp, or a dual Nvidia GeForce 930MX.
You may also be able to get an Nvidia Titan X with Nvidia Geforce GTX 970M graphics, though that wouldn’t be the cheapest option.
