The Asus router is getting a major refresh, as the company is offering a one-time “reset” of its software and firmware.
You’ll need a $129 upgrade to get the latest software and hardware from Asus, but the company has been working on making the process more secure.
Users can log in to the Asus website to download the software upgrade package and download a reset tool, which you’ll then need to bring into a PC with an online backup, a new router, or a backup of a previously deleted USB drive.
You can find more details on the Asus page.
The router will be up and running for two weeks.
“Once the reset is complete, users can choose to keep their current router configuration or to install a new Asus router.
The reset tool will erase all data and settings from the original Asus router,” the Asus site reads.
You won’t have to reinstall the router.
If you have the router, you’ll still be able to use it to connect to the Internet.
But it’ll still require you to be online.
This new router will also come with a new camera and microphone that Asus claims will be able “enhance your wireless audio experience.”
The router comes with an array of features, including an infrared camera that you can control through the router’s software, a USB hub for transferring music files, an infrared port for connecting your camera to the router and a 3.5mm headset jack.
The company says you’ll also be able upload your music files to the new router using the router as a USB thumb drive, and the company says the router can do the same with video files and photos.
If all this sounds a little familiar, it’s because Asus has a similar software update on the new ASUS router that will be coming soon.
